Mr Justice Laddie became one of the first UK judges to go against a ruling from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) – effectively finding a judgment from Europe’s highest court to be void. Laddie ruled in the Arsenal Football Club v Matthew Reed hearing that the ECJ had exceeded its jurisdiction by attempting to reach a finding on the facts of the dispute and that he was not bound by its conclusion.
