Macfarlanes and Dewey Ballantine have both advised key clients on the £249m management buy-out of Irish educational software company Riverdeep Group.

Macfarlanes advised UK private equity house Alchemy Partners, backer for the management vehicle Hertal Acquisitions, led by Riverdeep’s chief executive and a non-executive director.
Macfarlanes won Alchemy in 2001 ahead of Nabarro Nathanson and Clifford Chance and has since advised on all its legal requirements, from fund-raising to M&A work. Alchemy was advised on Irish legal matters by Matheson Ormsby Prentice (MOP).
