BAT firms cleared in appeal

McCabe: died of cancer An appeal court has overturned the caustic ruling of a national judge who accused Australian firm Clayton Utz of colluding in the destruction of documents vital to a tobacco suit.

The ruling, first reported on www.legalweek.net (Friday 6 December), also clears British American Tobacco (BAT) adviser Lovells of any wrongdoing, with the court rejecting the original judge’s criticism of a memo drawn up by one of its partners.
