American firms have shown their determination to build top-quality local practices in Europe this month after a string of high-level London partner hires.
Leading the pack was the groundbreaking hire by elite New York firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett of UK giant Allen & Overy’s (A&O) acquisition finance star Euan Gorrie. This was followed by Wall Street’s Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy hiring A&O capital markets partner Andrew Brodie for its London office. Then another New York rival, Shearman & Sterling, hired highly-rated corporate partner Jonathan Coppin from Norton Rose.
