The Hong Kong arm of London M&A leader Slaughter and May has scooped HSBC Insurance as a client after acting on the insurance group’s $600m purchase of a 10% stake in China-based Ping An Insurance.

The London firm secured the lucrative instruction after a beauty parade in January, advising HSBC Insurance on an agreement finalised on 8 October to buy 10% of Ping An’s issued share capital, subject to regulatory approval.
