Our search for octogenarian lawyers who are still practising has taken a further step backwards.

Last week an alert reader scolded us for confusing 83-year-old Lord Carlisle QC with Lord Carlile QC, who is in his mid-50s – when we wrongly congratulated the former for representing Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell during his recent trial.
