Peter Gibbons, WithersIn many respects, London-based Withers is a bit of an oddity in the legal community. While several of the UK’s leading law firms have in the past few years merged with a US firm, the vast majority of UK firms seeking a US alliance have been swallowed up by acquisitive, larger players from across the pond, as a stepping stone towards the US firm’s bid for global domination.

Withers, on the other hand, is almost unique as a UK firm playing the dominant partner in a transatlantic merger, since its tie-up with New York firm Bergman Horowitz & Reynolds in December last year.
