The UK’s flagging public M&A market received a much-needed boost last week with the announcement of two of the biggest deals of the year – handing major instructions to Herbert Smith, Slaughter and May and Lovells.
The deals, both reported on www.legalweek.net on 11 October, saw Bank of Ireland launch a £12bn bid for Abbey National, while Granada and Carlton announced their much-anticipated merger on Friday.
