US lawyers lead the way in the adoption of communications technology, using remote working platforms, such as audio-conferencing and online collaboration, to manage their time and workload. But is the UK legal profession content to play second fiddle in this race? Are UK law firms missing a trick when it comes to embracing the latest communications solutions?

Currently the US accounts for about 70% of the global electronic conferencing market – a market set to grow to $11bn (£7bn) within three years, according to research company Frost & Sullivan, with legal communications inevitably playing its part. US legal firms of all sizes are adapting traditional work patterns in a bid to save both time and money. However, growth in conferencing outside the US is expected to be more rapid than it has been State-side as competition begins to mature. We expect more than 50% of the conferencing market to be outside the US in five years’ time.
