The judicial appointments commissioner, Sir Colin Campbell, has highlighted serious flaws in the process for appointing judges and silks as well as a general “lack of confidence” in the system.
The criticism is contained the Judicial Appointment Commission’s first annual report, in which Campbell calls for a wide-ranging debate on the future of judicial appointments – including the desirability of an independent judicial appointments commission.
