Many firms have configured case management or workflow software for use in specific departments but seldom roll this out across the whole firm. In the current economic climate it is critical to ensure that IT investments are fully utilised across the organisation to gain maximum return on investment. This is more feasible now with the newer, more flexible application tools and is already being addressed by some firms.
By forming a Legal IT Innovators Group (Litig) consisting of around 20 IT directors or equivalent (and who will meet again at Gleneagles), we are beginning to investigate and address the issues facing legal IT professionals and their clients over the short to medium term of 12-18 months. The project was initiated by legal technology supplier Solicitec, but the participants include law firms that do not use the company’s software.
