“I joined Read and Williams from Oxford in 1965, did my articles here, became a specialist in corporate law and was invited to join the partnership towards the end of the 1970s.
The next 10 years were my best. There was a merger and acquisitions boom and I was too busy to pay much attention to how the partnership was being run.
