Europe’s umbrella legal body is calling on national bars to fight lawyer disclosure rules in the upcoming European Union (EU) Money Laundering Directive as opposition grows from legal bodies to regulatory pressure to water down client privilege.
The Council of the Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) on 11 September issued a report calling on its members in 15 EU states to press for the directive to be implemented without a major reduction of client privilege.
