Alan Stewart, managing partner of top 10 Scots firm Burness, has stepped down to pursue a career outside of the law. The Edinburgh-based firm will be run by incumbent chairman John Rafferty and newly-appointed non-lawyer director of operations Martin Sweet.

“I have just ceased to get enjoyment out of running the firm,” Stewart told Legal Week. “The firm has changed a great deal recently and I am not sure that it will change so much in the future.”
