During the next few years, technology and legislation will transform the way lawyers deal with real estate transactions. In addition, the residential conveyancing profession is faced with ever more cut-throat competition for more demanding customers: their margins are being squeezed tighter than ever. And it hurts.

This is not, however, a story of the death of the real estate lawyer – the knowledge of the lawyer will still drive the process, but now the vehicle has to be more efficient. And if ever there was a process that was in need of re-engineering, it is real estate. The challenge for the lawyer is to embrace the changes and seize the resultant commercial opportunities.
