The head of the Irish Law Society has blasted the “double standards” of US lawyers who abuse practice rights in Europe.The row centres on claims that US lawyers regularly handle legal work in Ireland on tourist visas without registering with the Irish Law Society.

Irish Law Society director general Ken Murphy told Legal Week that the practice, which is illegal, has exposed the double standards of the US legal community, where most state bars maintain tough restrictions on the ability of European lawyers to practice in the US.
