Canada’s fragmented securities regulation system has been the target of criticism from the financial community at home and abroad for some time. Despite recent moves in other jurisdictions, such as the EU and Australia, to streamline their regulatory regimes, it appears doubtful that the latest campaign to create a single securities authority in Canada will meet with any more success than earlier efforts.
