US mid-tier firms last year bettered their larger rivals in shrugging off the slow-down in corporate activity to post record results, according to research.

A survey published this month by American Lawyer magazine shows that the second hundred largest firms in the US outpaced their larger rivals in productivity growth for the first time in recent years.
Average revenue per lawyer rose by 5.1% in the group, compared with just 0.5% for the top 100 firms.
