Japanese leaders merge to challenge international rivals

Tokyo Two of Japan’s leading law firms are to merge creating the country’s third largest practice in a bid to compete with international firms.

Asahi Law Offices and Komatsu Koma & Nishikawa will merge on 1 October, forming a combined 100-lawyer practice with another 25 junior lawyers due to be taken on by the end of the year. The firms are based in Tokyo.
