Of 85,000 solicitors in England and Wales some 8,000 are from an ethnic minority background. The Law Society has created a new position for a council member to represent ethnic minority solicitors. I was elected to that post last month.
As part of the Law Society reforms in the past few months this post (along with several others) was created, with the aim of making the Law Society more representative and accountable to its members.
