Given the audacity of the move, UK giant Clifford Chance (CC) was taking no chances.
Within weeks of the approach in January by Tower Snow, the then chairman of West Coast firm Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, CC had called in elite New York firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett to make sure the proposed hiring of a sizeable chunk of Brobecks’ practice was “above board”.
