Partner movement at magic circle firms hit a new high this week as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer hired two US partners in Washington DC, while rival Linklaters lured a leading lawyer from Clifford Chance (CC) – only to lose a tax partner to a US rival within days.
The rare partner appointments at Freshfields saw the magic circle firm launch a US antitrust practice with the appointment of Vinson & Elkins partner Paul Yde and Mary Jean Moltenbrey, a senior official from the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice.
