Lord Bingham of Cornhill, the senior law lord, has added his voice to growing calls for the creation of an independent supreme court to take over the judicial function of the House of Lords.
Speaking last week at the spring lecture of the constitution unit at University College London (UCL), Bingham warned that England and Wales’ judicial system, which sees the law lords sit in the House of Lords, might contravene the Human Rights Act (HRA).
