The Civil Justice Council (CJC) is to push for the introduction of fixed fees for fast-track personal injury (PI) cases after the working party set up by the council to examine the issue concluded that the costs regime for PI needs streamlining.

If the reforms are accepted, it would mean that lawyers would have their fees set by the Lord Chancellor’s Department (LCD) or the courts before taking on any fast-track PI work. The reforms would set out fixed rates for PI claims below £15,000, the vast majority of which settle out of court.
