The National Health Service’s (NHS) exposure to clinical negligence claims has risen by £500m over the last year despite attempts to stem the rising tide of claims.
The latest National Audit Office (NAO) breakdown of NHS expenditure has shown that the service’s potential liabilities for clinical negligence rose from £3.9bn on 31 March 2000 to £4.4bn a year later.
