MDP blow as European Court backs Dutch ban

The cause of multi-disciplinary partnerships (MDPs) was this week dealt a serious blow after the European Court of Justice (ECJ) upheld national bar restrictions on accountancy-tied firms.

The ruling, handed down on 19 February, backed the legality of restrictions imposed by the Dutch Bar, appearing to grant all EU bars wide freedom to restrict links between accountants and lawyers.
