A splendid seven days for The Diary’s favourite ‘modernisers’, or the Bar as they call themselves, as the UK’s advocacy profession seized the opportunity to show off its radical, out-of-the-box thinking in response to not one, but two reviews.

That’s right, the Bar, giving its input on the Office of Fair Trading and Auld reports, showed once more the agility of thought for which it has become famed, by, er, rejecting virtually every single proposal in both reports.
