Given the reputational battering handed out to Enron’s accountants and bankers, the acrimonious collapse of the energy giant appears to be proving so far more boon than curse to leading law firms on both sides of the Atlantic.
While the conduct of Enron’s auditor Andersen has put a question mark over the big five accountant’s future, only the company’s former legal adviser Vinson & Elkins has suffered major criticism, centring on a leaked document confirming the firm signed off on Enron’s aggressive accounting practices.
