One of the last things Bar Council chairman Roy Amlot QC did before stepping down from his post was to issue a circular to chambers outlining major changes to the timetable for recruiting pupils before, politely, but firmly, reminding sets that they were “expected” to abide by it.

The unexpected missive forced at least one well organised set, Blackstone Chambers, to hastily re-write, print and distribute a new set of recruitment bumpf just in time for the Bar Council to withdraw the new timetable.
