The price of an international call has dropped remarkably over the past few years. But increasingly, many callers trying to take advantage of falling tariffs are finding that their calls are not getting through. Callers across the world are getting the disconnected tone. In the past, this might have been put down to over-subscription or poor technology, but in recent times the explanation is more likely to be that the telecoms company is in some form of insolvency procedure.
Unfortunately, the telecoms sector appears to be following the dotcom collapse and is the new ‘hot’ sector for the insolvency profession. There are some similarities between the dotcoms and the telecoms, not least in the amount of equity provided to start-ups, and the remarkable burn-rates of the telecoms companies.
