The Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine, yesterday put an end to long-standing rumours that the Government would privatise the Land Registry following the deployment of its online information hub, the National Land Information Service (NLIS), which is run as a public-private partnership.

According to an official statement, Lord Irvine accepted the conclusions of the Registry’s quinquennial review, which recommends that it should remain in the public sector as a government department, while continuing to work closely with private companies.
