Thousands of commercial solicitors will be able to apply for higher court rights of audience from 1 October, following the passing of rules by the Law Society last week.

The Law Society’s main council rubber-stamped regulations that will introduce three paths for solicitors who wished to gain higher court rights: exemption, accreditation, and development.
The accreditation route, which applies to practising lawyers with more than three years’ relevant experience, is expected to lead to a surge in the number of solicitor-advocates.
