Slaughter and May has leaped 10 places and knocked Freshfields off the top spot in the latest M&A league tables published last week.
According to mergermarket.com, Slaughters announced six deals for the first half of 2000 with a combined value of £162bn.

Freshfields, on the other hand, fell six places to number seven, announcing 56 deals valued at £68bn. Meanwhile, Linklaters & Alliance notched up one place to second for closing 93 deals, the highest number of all the firms, valued at £150bn.
On the US side, Shearman & Sterling jumped a staggering 29 places to come in at number four on the table with 31 deals valued at £107bn.
