Freshfields has advised the Government of Brunei on its sale of legendary jewellers Asprey & Garrard to the co-chairmen of street-style fashion design company Tommy Hilfiger from Prince Jefri of Brunei.

London-based Canadian millionaire Lawrence Stroll and his business partner, Hong Kong textile heir Silas Chou, purchased the ailing Bond Street and Trump Tower shop that incorporates Garrards, the Crown Jewellers, for an undisclosed sum. They were advised by Slaughter and May.
Lovells advised Asprey’s vendor, Prince Jefri of Brunei, who bought Aspreys through family trusts in 1995 for £245.5m. In May, the state-owned Brunei investment agency took control over the shop in an out-of-court settlement after alleged misuse of funds.
