Baker & McKenzie partner Tim Gee led a team advising global speciality chemicals company Clariant AG on its £108bn recommended takeover offer for British fine chemicals group BTP plc. A team from Ashurst Morris Crisp, led by partner Chris Ashworth, advised BTP. Clariant AG, a Swiss-based company is listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and operates through 60 countries in six divisions.

Herbert Smith advised Bradford & Bingley Building Society on its £100m acquisition of the entire issued share capital of mortgage brokers John Charcol Holdings from majority shareholder Warburg Pincus and a number of other smaller shareholders. The Herbert Smith team was led by partner Martina Asmar. Freshfields partner Philip Richards led the team acting for the vendors.
