SJ Berwin & Co advised British Land on the purchase of the UK’s fourth largest shopping centre, Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield for £1.17bn. The deal is the largest single purchaser property transaction done by British Land in the UK. Corporate partner Jonathan Metliss with property partners Stephen Willson and Jeff Smith led the team. Addleshaw Booth & Co represented the vendor, Stadium, run by Eddie Healey and Paul Sykes, led by corporate partner Ian McIntosh and property partner Michael Reevey.

CMS Cameron McKenna acted for Deutsche Asset Management in setting up and providing mezzanine finance from the Morgan Grenfell Office Property Fund to the Atlas Limited Partnership and a company run by Godfrey Bilton. The finance was made available to purchase an £80m portfolio of offices from Pillar Properties. Bilton’s son Anton Bilton will manage the portfolio through his company, The Raven Group. Corporate partner Barney Hearnden led the team. Rakisons, led by property partner Brendan Patterson, acted for the Biltons.
