Linklaters has fallen in line with other U.K. firms to work toward “normalising” shared childcare. The firm is setting out to allow any U.K. employee whose significant other is having a baby, becoming a parent through surrogacy or adoption, to take 12 weeks of paid leave. It is one of several firms that are working on expanding their parental policies.

The new policy will allow all employees to be able to take parental leave “regardless of gender or gender identity”, the firm said. Staff will be able to take up to 12 weeks’ paid leave at any time during the first 12 months after the baby’s arrival.

Currently, this new policy is only available to Linklaters’ U.K. employees, but the firm said it will be “assessing the suitability of an enhanced parental support package for its other offices and regions throughout 2020″.
