Hilary Goodier, head of global technology strategy at Herbert Smith Freehills’ Alternative Legal Services, doesn’t subscribe to the view that technology will eventually replace lawyers. But that doesn’t mean some lawyers’ jobs aren’t threatened.

“Those lawyers who don’t adapt and who don’t learn how to use technology to drive efficiencies in their practices and for their clients, they’ll be replaced by those that do,” the Melbourne, Australia-based lawyer says. “Lawyers are going to have to become far more savvy about how we use technology for the benefit of our clients, and those that do will be the ones that succeed in the future.”
