Ropes & Gray promotes London finance duo in 12-strong round

Ropes & Gray has made up two London finance lawyers to partner in its annual promotion round.

The US firm has made up two finance lawyers in the City, with Anna Lawry and Alex Robb making the grade. Lawry��s work focuses on derivatives and structured finance, including advising on regulatory developments affecting derivatives and other financial instruments. Robb meanwhile has experience in both domestic and international financing, with a particular focus on leveraged finance together with financial restructuring matters. The firm has promoted two lawyers in London every year in its annual round��<a href="http://www.legalweek.com/sites/legalweek/2016/10/27/ropes-gray-adds-two-to-london-partnership-in-11-strong-round/">since 2015</a>. All appointments come into effect on 1 November. In this year��s promotions, the Boston-headquartered firm has made the bulk of the new partner appointments to its US bases in Silicon Valley, Boston, New York and Washington DC. Meanwhile, two lawyers have been made up in the firm��s Hong Kong office. Ropes chairman Brad Malt said: ��The outstanding legal advice and client service these accomplished lawyers provide every day strengthens our partnership with our distinguished clients.�� The firm has also promoted three of its lawyers to counsel in the round, which comes during an unsettled year for the firm. Ropes has seen at least 22 partners��<a href="http://www.legalweek.com/sites/legalweek/2017/09/12/its-going-to-be-death-by-a-thousand-cuts-why-are-so-many-partners-leaving-ropes-gray/">leave the firm</a>��globally since the start of the year, including seven who have joined Kirkland & Ellis in London, Hong Kong, New York, Chicago and Boston. Earlier this month, <a href="http://www.legalweek.com/sites/legalweek/2017/10/13/ropes-gray-associates-offered-thousands-to-stay-after-partner-walkouts/">Legal Week revealed</a>��that following the partner departures, the firm made retention bonus offers to associates of up to $50,000 (��37,500) per person to prevent further exits. According to former partners, roughly five associates in the London office were offered payments of about ��20,000, while other former partners said several associates in the US and Hong Kong were��offered up to $50,000 to stay. The counter-offers were made by Ropes after a number of associates whose partners had moved on to other firms were approached to follow them. Sources suggested to��Legal Week��that about 60% of Ropes�� counter-offers to associates were accepted.
