Veteran Washington lawyer Fred Fielding has been named as the new White House counsel to the president, replacing Harriet Miers, who resigned from the role last week.
Fielding is a senior partner at Washington firm Wiley Rein & Fielding and is known for his extensive experience in business litigation and government relations law. President Bush said in a statement that Fielding’s long record of public service made him uniquely qualified for the role.
