Lawyers who grew up with electronic media know that the legal marketplace lags behind many other professions in using technology to efficiently provide better work-product and client service. Lawyers who apply technology to solve problems — and understand technology case law — have a better chance to rise to prominence, along with their firms, while others fade. Whether you’re a new lawyer anxious to dive into legal technology tools, or a skeptical veteran exploring technology for the first time, here are a few steps to start your travel on the road to legal “nerdvana”:

Learn technology. Most attorneys em-brace the concept of technology and efficiency, but shy away from investing time and resources in technology education. This is a mistake — technology (like the law) changes and evolves. You can’t master everything and then stop learning. It’s a sometimes-frustrating Sisyphean quest to keep up-to-date. But don’t give up. Read blogs, books, the “technology” section of your favorite mainstream newspaper (which you probably read online), and technology-focused periodicals (such as LTN) . Never stop learning.
