Davis Polk & Wardwell, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom are among the firms to have been shortlisted for International Law Firm of the Year at The Asia Legal Awards.
Also vying for the showcase category at March’s ceremony are Kirkland & Ellis, Herbert Smith Freehillsand Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
The awards, which are hosted by The Asian Lawyer in association with sister titles Legal Week, China Law & Practice and The American Lawyer, take place on March 22 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong.
They recognize the region’s landmark deals, best-performing law firms and standout partners. Four in-house teams of the year in banking and finance, consumers and retail, real estate and technology, media and telecommunications are also honored.
Shortlisted deals in the M&A category include HNA Group Co.’s $6.5 billion acquisition of a 25 percent stake in Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Toshiba Corp.’s $18 billion sale of its chip-making businesses.
M&A Firm of the Year sees Chinese firm Fangda Partners join the race with global players Clifford Chance, Kirkland, Skadden, Simpson Thacher and Weil. Skadden, Davis Polk will face competition from Magic Circle firm Allen & Overy, China’s King & Wood Mallesons, India’s Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Korea’s Bae, Kim & Lee in Securities Firm of the Year.
Winners in 2017 included Davis Polk, which was received International Law Firm of the Year, and Korean firm Bae, Kim & Lee which took home Asian Law Firm of the Year.
