China’s Zhong Lun Law Firm has hired a four-lawyer banking team in Hong Kong from Mayer Brown JSM.

Led by former Mayer Brown partner Joe Tam , the team advises China-related bank loan, debt restructuring and foreign direct investment transactions. Tam had been a partner with legacy Johnson Stokes & Master and stayed through the Hong Kong firm’s 2008 merger with Mayer Brown. He was also the firm’s chief representative in Guangzhou until the office’s closure two years.

Also joining Zhong Lun is former Mayer Brown senior consultant Irene Lau who specializes in debt and asset-based financing. Lau became a partner with legacy Johnson Stokes in 2005 and retired in 2016, becoming a consultant with the firm.

Associates Stanley Chung and Raymond Cai are also joining Zhong Lun.

Beijing-based Zhong Lun first entered Hong Kong in 2011 through an association with local firm Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson . In 2015, Boughton Peterson and another Hong Kong firm, Yam & Co, both merged into Zhong Lun . The firm now has 48 lawyers in Hong Kong, including 18 partners.

Since 2015, Mayer Brown JSM has been in association with Chinese firm Jingtian & Gongcheng in Hong Kong.
