Seyfarth Shaw has formed an association with a Hong Kong law firm, and has hired King & Wood Mallesons partner Raymond Wong to serve as managing partner of the firm’s recently opened Hong Kong office.

At King & Wood Mallesons, Wong advised on capital market deals. In March, he represented Canada’s Persta Resources Inc. on a $28 million initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Before joining King & Wood Mallesons, Wong was a partner with Paul Hastings and O’Melveny & Myers in London.

Chicago-based Seyfarth announced in February its plan to launch a Hong Kong office with the hire of DLA Piper Asia employment law head Julia Gorham. The firm recently received approval from the Law Society of Hong Kong to officially open a foreign law firm office in the city.

Meanwhile, Wong and Seyfarth Shanghai partner Wan Li also formed a local firm in Hong Kong, Wong, Wan & Partners, and entered into a formal association with Seyfarth. The association will enable Seyfarth to offer Hong Kong law advice. Wan joined Seyfarth from DLA Piper in 2013 to help launch the U.S. firm’s first Asia base in Shanghai .

In addition to Hong Kong and Shanghai, Seyfarth has two Australian offices in Sydney and Melbourne.
