Morrison & Foerster partner Charles Chau has defected to Jones Day in Hong Kong.
Chau represents Chinese companies on Hong Kong securities offers and outbound investments. In 2015, he led the team representing state-owned train maker China CNR Corp., which he had helped list in Hong Kong the previous year in a $1.5 billion initial public offering, on a $26 billion merger with peer CSR Corp. Ltd.
Chau first joined Morrison & Foerster from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2007 and became a partner in 2011. Earlier in his career, he also practiced with Clifford Chance.
Jones Day has hired other securities law specialists. In late 2016, the firm hired back U.S. law securities specialist Jeffrey Maddox from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, which decided to close up shop in Hong Kong and Beijing. The firm also lost private equity and funds partner Scott Peterman in July to Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Last year, Morrison & Foerster hired partner Vivian Yiu, a Hong Kong law corporate and capital markets lawyer, from Allen & Overy.
