Ashurst has hired Frédéric Draps in Jakarta, Indonesia, from Allen & Overy’s Jakarta affiliate firm, Ginting & Reksodiputro.

Draps, who will be a projects partner at his new firm, will be based in Ashurst’s Jakarta affiliate Oentoeng Suria & Partners as a foreign legal consultant. He specializes in project development and financing in the power and renewable energy, oil and gas, and mining infrastructure sectors in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Draps joins after more than 13 years at Allen & Overy, including the last six years at Ginting & Reksodiputro, where he was promoted to counsel in 2016. Previously, he was based in the Magic Circle firm’s office in Brussels and seconded at Belgium power company EDF Luminus N.V. and green energy company Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co. PJSC, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi government’s state fund Mubadala Investment Co.

“We anticipate significant opportunities and a strong pipeline in the energy and infrastructure sectors across Southeast Asia. The firm continues to invest resources to enhance our offering,”  Ashurst Asia head Patrick Phua said in a statement.

With the addition of Draps, Oentoeng Suria now has five partner-level lawyers. The firm saw several partner departures in the past few years, most recently Atik Susanto, who left in late 2018. Susanto led the Oentoeng Suria team serving as Indonesian counsel to China Development Bank on a $4.5 billion project financing for a railway in Jakarta in 2017.
