Norton Rose Fulbright expanded its energy and resources practice in Perth with the hires of Clifford Chance counsel Jessica Davies and King & Wood Mallesons senior associate David Jewkes as partners.

Davies specializes in corporate transactions and major projects in the oil and gas and mining sectors globally. In 2017, she was part of the team that assisted Russian steel producer EVRAZ plc on a $354 million sale of joint-stock company EVRAZ Nakhodka Trade Sea Port—a seaport based in Nakhodka, Russia—to its majority shareholder Lanebrook Ltd., a Cyprus-based investment company partially owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

Before joining Clifford Chance as counsel in 2016, Davies practiced at Allen & Overy in London and Sydney, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in New York and at the legacy Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

Jewkes, who will join Norton Rose Fulbright in March, focuses on public mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets transactions and general corporate work in the resources and oil and gas sectors. He was part of the team that advised Chinese private equity firm Hony Capital on a $750 million sale of 11.7 percent stake in Australian gas producer Santos Ltd. to Chinese gas producer ENN Ecological Holdings Co. Ltd. in 2016.

Jewkes returns to Norton Rose Fulbright, having practiced with the firm from 2006 to 2013 before leaving for King & Wood Mallesons. He also seconded at Australian mining group South32 Ltd. in Perth and at the Australian Takeovers Panel in Melbourne.

“With positive signs of growth in the Australian energy and resources industries, and for general corporate activity in Perth, we feel the time is right to add another two talented corporate M&A partners in our Perth office,” Norton Rose Fulbright Australia managing partner Wayne Spanner said in a statement.

The appointments in Perth follow the hires of Clifford Chance’s former Perth head Paul Lingard as co-head of the Asia-Pacific energy industry group and former Herbert Smith Freehills executive counsel Miriam D’Souza as a partner, both in October of last year. Davies assisted Lingard on the EVRAZ deal.

With the additions of Davies and Jewkes, Norton Rose Fulbright has 16 partners in Perth.
