Clyde & Co has hired intellectual property lawyer Yan Gong as a Beijing-based local partner and head of the trademark practice in the firm’s Chinese joint venture Clyde & Co Westlink.
Gong joins from Beijing-based IP specialist firm China PAT Intellectual Property Office, where she was a partner. She brings with her a team of five fee-earners, three of whom will join next month.
Gong specializes in trademark prosecution work and also advises on related investigations and litigation. Previously, she practiced at Bird & Bird in Beijing and at the Australian firm Allens.
Clyde & Co has been expanding its IP practice in China in recent years. In July 2017, the London-based firm recruited a team of five lawyers, led by veteran IP lawyer Elliot Papageorgiou, from IP specialist firm Rouse.
In 2013, Clyde & Co entered into a joint venture with Chongqing-based Westlink Partnership, giving the U.K. firm access to Chinese law advice. Clyde & Co Westlink has five other local partners across its offices in Chongqing, Beijing and Shanghai, focusing on IP, dispute resolution and corporate work.
