Squire Patton Boggs has hired Mörk Murdock as a corporate partner in Tokyo. Murdock came from Davis Polk & Wardwell, where he was counsel.

Murdock’s practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures. Last year, he advised Japanese pharmaceutical company Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corp. on a $1.1 billion acquisition of Nasdaq-listed Israeli drugmaker NeuroDerm.

Murdock, who speaks fluent Japanese, joined Davis Polk’s Tokyo office in 2004 and was promoted to counsel in 2013. He spent time in the firm’s New York office between 2009 and 2011.

With the addition of Murdock, Squire’s Tokyo office has 13 partners, mostly focusing on corporate work. Last year, the U.S. firm recruited corporate partner Rika Beppu from Hogan Lovells.

In 2014, Squire combined with Tokyo-based corporate boutique Mamiya Law Offices, shortly after the merger between Cleveland-based Squire Sanders and Washington, D.C.-based Patton Boggs.

Murdock’s departure from Davis Polk comes a month after the New York-based firm hired former Shearman & Sterling mergers and acquisitions partner Kenneth Lebrun.
