Dentons has hired corporate partner John Mollard from Baker McKenzie in Melbourne.

Mollard focuses on mergers and acquisitions in the energy and resources sectors. In 2014, he was part of the team that advised Melbourne-based radiology provider Lake Imaging on a merger with Gold Coast-based South Coast Radiology.

He joined Baker McKenzie in 2009 as a partner from legacy Australian firm Blake Dawson, which announced in 2011 that it would merge with Ashurst.

The global legal giant’s Melbourne office was launched in November of last year with a four-partner team from Melbourne-based boutique Nick Stretch Legal, led by Nick Stretch, who is now the corporate head of the office.

In March of this year, Dentons absorbed 17 partners from legacy Australian firm DibbsBarker—two in Melbourne. In 2016, Dentons acquired Australian firm Gadens’ offices in Sydney, Perth and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, while the Melbourne office remained independent.

Dentons has 10 partners in Melbourne, mostly focusing on corporate, banking and finance and intellectual property.
